Welcome to St. Kilian's Class of 1972 website. St. K's was a Catholic elementary school that provided a Catholic based education for Grades 1 through 8. St. Kilian's parish is located in Farmingdale, NY. The school attracted students from the communities of Farmingdale, Bethpage, Massapequa, and Melville. Many of us had many siblings that also attended the school. Our class was made of three separate homerooms with approxmately 50 children in each classroom. Yes, 50.
The school was the center of many of our social and extracurricular activities. Choir, altarboys, CYO were some of the activities that provided us with great memories. Our parents were involved in Mother's Club, Holy Name Society, and a Father's Club.
We had a reunion at Belmont State Park on August 16th. There were approximately 15 of us from our class of 1972. Also, in attendance were Mrs. Lubrano, CYO basketball coach Mr. Kelsey Moffett, Mr. Steven Bongiorno Sr., and Mr. Anthony Schmitt Sr. We shared food, drink, laughter, and great memories.
Steve Moffett referred to those times as our, "Wonder Years." He was right, we grew up it that time frame; closeknit neighborhoods, baseball games on the school playgrounds, The Vietnam War, Woodstock, Man on the Moon, Peace Protests, The Miracle Mets, Jets winning the Super Bowl, the assassinations inof Martin Luther King and Robert F. Kennedy, and many many other famous events. The St. Kilian school community provided us with a moral compass that continues to guide us today. It was an experience that looking back on was the "good old days".
Those who were at the reunion were; Steve Bongiorno, Rose Devine, Anthony Schmitt, Mellisa Friscia (Kudrick), Peggy Accttella(Walsh), Nancy Fullam,Brian McKenna, Jean Shea, Greg Spuhler, Steve Moffett, Rich Rapp, Rob Rendely, Ann Rodenburg and Ron Keats.
